Dog Training Tips For Fear-Biting

A dog that fear-bites does so because it is the only way of expressing her extreme fear or panic. I will give you some dog training tips to help with this problem.

Dog Training Tip #1

Well-meaning people cause most fear-biting cases. They see a scared dog and approach it to comfort her or show her there is nothing to be scared of. They are pushing an already panicked dog over the edge. Give the dog space! This is the biggest dog training tip! Fear-biting does not occur un-provoked. It happens when people ignore the message the dog is sending them.

Dog Training Tip #2

Look for the dogs posture. If the tail is tucked, she is hunched, back lowered, ears flat against her head, elbows bent at a slight crouch, then she is scared.

Dog Training Tip #3

Look for the dog’s behavior. If she is excessively panting (hyperventilating), yawning, avoiding eye contact, and in extreme cases, the dog may urinate or defecate out of fear.

Dog Training Tip #4

Build up her confidence with obedience training. When training her, draw attention to the achievements and good behavior with a reward (praise is best). Practice at least 10 minutes a day, but no more than 20. The dog’s attention span is not any longer than that.

Dog Training Tip #5

Desensitize her to the fear object. Slowly acclimate your dog to whatever is scaring her. She will learn through experience that the source of fear isn’t scary after all. This is where your patience, consistency and persistence come in. Don’t force her to over come the fear. This will only backfire on you!

Dog Training Tip # 6

Don’t crowd her. Scared dogs need space, back off and let her come to you when she is ready.

Dog Training Tip #7

Don’t coddle her. Don’t reward her behavior with special attention. This will only reinforce to her that being scared is the right thing.

Dog Training Tip #8

If she is hiding or resisting you, pay attention to this! She is trying to tell you she is not ready yet to conquer this fear. She needs more time, to go slowly. When you force her out of her comfort zone, this is when a bite will occur.

- Feed your dog a high quality diet. This is twofold – one, higher quality dog food will provide the nutrients that your dog needs to stay healthy. Two, a higher quality dog food creates less and better formed stools, reducing the number of accidents that your dog will have.

- Do not free feed your dog. What goes in must come out, and if you are free feeding your dog, you may not be home when this happens. Free feeding can also lead to obesity and other health problems.

- For best results your dog should be on a regular potty schedule. An essential puppy potty training tip for house training involves a schedule. A schedule for going outside to use the bathroom makes it easier for your dog to anticipate when he or she will be able to go out next, and it help eliminates the risk of accidents. -

- Take the dog out in immediate “gotta go” situations. Your dog will need to go to the bathroom – immediately after waking, eating, being crated, or in times of great excitement.

- Only use positive reinforcement. – Bad behaviors like barking for attention should be ignored.

- stop behavior unexpectdedly. Interrupting behavior at the same time and in the same way will cause your dog to ignore you.

- Redirect unwanted behaviors. If your dog is starting to jump up, tell him to sit and reward him for sitting. Replace inappropriate chew toys, like shoes, with appropriate toys instead.

I used to be in the same position until I went back to basics and started to understand what my dog really needed – only after that was I in a position to learn how to give it to them. Apart from physical restrictions, however, generally training from when your dog is young is far easier.

Tip #2 – The Essential Tricks

Here are several essential dog training tricks to consider:

Come – Get your dog to come to you. This is useful both at home when you want to cuddle, or when he’s disturbing other people or dogs outside the house.

Off – Tell your dog to get off whatever furniture, animal, or person he’s on. This is useful for preserving your expensive furniture, or getting him off your relatives when he’s a little too friendly.

Sit – One of the most well known commands, sit will tell your dog to sit down. This is useful to keep your dog still while you’re preparing his food. This command can also be used to prevent your dog from chasing after other animals or people.

Tip #3 – Go With Your Dog’s Tendencies

Dogs have tendencies to like certain tricks more than others. It is far easier to train a dog to do what he naturally wants to do anyway, than it is to try and communicate a foreign concept that he doesn’t understand.

For example, some dogs will naturally chase after moving objects. If this is your dog, the dog training trick “fetch” will be much easier to teach than a high-five.

Another example is if your dog likes raising his paws up, teaching him the “paw” trick (raise your paw up) would be far easier than teaching him to fetch, if he doesn’t have the tendency to run after objects already.

Dog Training Tricks – How to Get Your Dog to “Come” Every Time You Call

You are trying to tell your dog to come here. It ignores you. You try again getting a bit more frustrated. No matter how much you shout at your dog it does not seem to react. There are simple dog training tricks that can make this work so that your dog will come to you immediately, every time.

First, it is important to understand that you dog is ignoring your commands because it doesn’t understand you. You may have tried to teach your dog this command already, and it may now be that what it is thinking you want is different from what you actually want.

Your dog desire is to please it’s owner and the easiest way to teach your dog is to do it for a few minutes each day in the form of play. Make it fun and your dog will learn faster. Also, this is a great way to bond with your dog. Spend those few minutes a day to teach your dog to “come” as soon as you command it.

Use food as a motivator as one of the dog training tricks. Use small one-bite treats as a reward when your dog does something correct, and make sure that you praise with a positive voice at the same time. When you are watching TV, or anywhere in the house, tell your dog to “come”  and give him a treat when he does. Only one treat, though! And don’t do it all the time or the training trick will no longer be effective. Make sure that you use a calm, happy voice.

Make sure that you are consistent in the way you train your dog to come, and be patient. Do this technique throughout the day, changing the rewards, and soon your dog will be happily obeying your command everytime

To Whom It May Concern:

We were recently hired by Jim & Serena Pritchard who live at 3083 Warren Lane, El Dorado Hills, CA 95762 to evaluate and train their two Standard Poodle dogs.

Our evaluation is that the male dog is territorial and has nipped at ‘new people’ in an effort to chase them away from the family home. The dog is not aggressive, but a little over-protective of the Pritchards with strangers walking by.
Super Dog Training
We have spent approximately four hours at the home so far training the Pritchards how to effectively and safely manage their dogs so there will be no more incidents. Additionally, a behavioral training regimen with the dogs has been started in an effort to further dissuade the male from being over-protective in the future.

In my opinion, the Pritchards have the right attitude and have pretty much done everything reasonable and possible to mitigate the problem here. I don’t expect the Court to have to deal with the Pritchard dog problem in the future.

Clicker Training – The Facts About This Amazing Dog Training Revolution!

I’m sure you’d like to have a really well-trained dog, and would like to know how to use clicker training to make that job easy for you. This video will help you with that!

Every dog-owner desires a well-behaved dog. Even if you’ve tried to train your dog in the past and maybe haven’t been as successful as you’d like, don’t worry, it’s not your fault. With all the incorrect and incomplete information out there, it’s understandable. It really IS possible to train your dog as well as you would like, and this video gives you a great way to start towards a well-behaved dog.

The clicker-training method is simple and effective, and has been a genuine revolution in dog training in recent times.

It was first used in training marine mammals (maybe because they naturally make clicking sounds!), and was so effective that it was rapidly taken up by dog trainers too.

One major advantage of clicker training is that that, compared to almost any other method, clicker training gives much quicker feedback on what the dog is doing. Imagine that your dog has just done something you wanted it to do, but is a few yards away from you. It takes some time to run over there and pat the dog, or even to give some verbal praise.

Using a clicker, the feedback to the dog is immediate which makes it far easier for the dog to rapidly learn exactly what you want it to do. That is, after all, how training works!

Additionally, the sound of the clicker sound doesn’t change according to your mood. This is really important, as it makes training the dog very much quicker and easier, instead of confusing it by giving it the same command in many different tones of voice as your mood changes naturally.

How you implement clicker training is you first buy the clicker. Most pet stores will have them these days, or you could find a children’s toy which produces suitable clicks.

Then with your dog, make a click and straight-away give him a treat and give him praise at the same time.

Repeat this often, so the dog associates the click with the reward. Once this association has developed, the click can be used on it’s own, usually without the treat.

The click takes the meaning of “correct” for the dog, so every time you click, the dog knows it’s done what you wanted, at exactly the time of the click. So that’s how clicker training works.

This method can really help you train your dog more rapidly and effectively. Why not give it a try!

Feeding your dog is not an easy thing to do, if you consider your dog as part of your family, you will take into consideration your dog’s health and choose healthy dog food to prolong your canine friend’s life.

Dog food must contain balance proportions of nutrients needed for growth and development. Fat is also needed when you get to choose healthy dog food. Good sources of fat are vegetable oil, fish and meat. Omega-3 fatty acids are important for keeping a healthy skin and may help in the restoration of other health problems like inflammation and blood clotting.

Like humans, dogs need vitamins and minerals. Choose healthy dog food rich in vitamins and minerals which are essential in dog’s development and for fighting diseases. For instance, Vitamin A is important for proper vision and for bone and teeth development. Vitamin D is important for the absorption of calcium and Vitamin E has anti-oxidant properties to eliminate toxins in the dog’s body. Minerals like calcium and magnesium are good for teeth and bones strength as well as for the normal functioning of the heart.

Water is also essential for the digestion and transportation of nutrients; it also helps in the regulation of body temperature.
